The Central Virginia Waste Management Authority is a regional public service authority formed in 1990 under the Virginia Water and Sewer Authorities Act. The CVWMA provides solid waste management and recycling services for its 13 local member jurisdictions, which include the Cities of Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Petersburg and Richmond; the Town of Ashland; and the Counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Powhatan and Prince George.  With a population of over 1.1 million, (2010 Census )nearly 2,500 square miles are incorporated within the Authority’s boundaries.
