For information about touring a local materials recovery facility where recyclables are processed, please contact CVWMA at info@cvwma.com or 359-8413. Tours are typically held twice a year, in the spring to observe Earth Day and in the fall to observe America Recycles Day.
Minimum age of particpants: 18.
For younger children, borrow "Journey Through the MRF: a video field trip inside a recycling facility".
Tour minimum is 10 and maximum is 20. If your group is interested in touring the facility and meets our minimum/maximum limits and age requirements, we can schedule a special tour for your group. Two weeks advance request is REQUIRED.
The facility that will be toured is operated by CVWMA's curbside recycling contactor. It is located in Chester, Virginia. The facility processes 35,000 tons of materials collected locally each year from CVWMA programs. It is a single-stream facility, which means it processes mingled recyclables (bottles, cans, paper, glass, cardboard, etc).
