Recycling Facility Tour for Public
Ever
wonder what happens to your recyclables after you put them in the
bin? CVWMA is giving the public a unique opportunity to tour a
Materials Recovery Facility and watch the recycling process in
action.
In
honor of America Recycles Day, CVWMA and Tidewater Fibre Corporation
(TFC), CVWMA’s recycling contractor, invite people to take a
first-hand look at how commingled cans, bottles and paper materials
are sorted in preparation for recycling. CVWMA will conduct tours of
TFC’s Chester Materials Recovery facility on Wednesday, November 12
beginning at 1:00 pm.
Waste
from both the central Virginia curbside recycling program and the
drop-off program are sent to this recycling facility. Over 35,000
tons of material are recycled annually from the two programs and
coincidentally are diverted from Virginia landfills.
Please contact Kelley Bartell at 359-8413 for tour tickets.
Reservations are required and will be accepted through November 10.
Participants must be at least 18 years old to attend.
Also
planned for the month are presentations at a variety of school and
community groups.
Make
a Pledge and Win on America Recycles Day
Don’t
forget to enter the CVWMA drawing to win earth-friendly prizes
including an earth wagon, fleece jackets, bird feeders and more.
Show your support by filling out a pledge card and
make your commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Then
celebrate America Recycles Day with CVWMA on November 15th! A
community celebration will take place at the Science Museum of
Virginia where participants will enjoy recycled papermaking, photo
opportunities with “Bin” displays of recycled and recyclable
materials and entertainment by Jonathan Austin who juggles
recyclable items in his act.
America Recycles Day was established seven years ago to educate
people about recycling. Each year millions of people learn about
recycling and make a commitment to increase recycling activities.
