Virginia Recycles Day
November 15, 2005

 

Governor Mark R. Warner has officially recognized November 15, 2005 as Virginia Recycles Day.  Below is the text of the certificate of recognition.

 

CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION

 By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized: 

VIRGINIA RECYCLES DAY

       WHEREAS, Article XI of the Virginia Constitution decrees that it is the policy of the Commonwealth of Virginia to protect its atmosphere, lands and waters from pollution, impairment or destruction for the benefit, enjoyment and general welfare of the people of the Commonwealth; and

       WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia has taken a leadership role in recycling by establishing a goal for Virginia's communities to recycle at least twenty-five percent of all waste generated statewide since 1995; and

       WHEREAS, businesses, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and individuals have joined together to raise awareness about the need to reduce waste by reusing; and

       WHEREAS, state and community leaders need to spread the word about the excellent recycling programs they have established, the growth of markets in Virginia for recyclable materials, and the importance of buying recycled products;

       NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mark R. Warner, do hereby recognize November 15, 2005 as “VIRGINIA RECYCLES DAY” in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
