 Alkaline
Batteries
In years past alkaline batteries (such as regular A, AA, and
9-volt) contained significant levels of mercury, a hazardous heavy
metal. Today, most alkaline batteries contain far less
mercury, resulting in less potential for soil and water
contamination. Virginia law permits residents to dispose
of small quantities of alkaline batteries in the
trash.
You can
also choose to purchase rechargeable
batteries, and use AC adapters when possible.
